A Safe Place to Heal: Reclaiming Power Through My Wellness Center

The Fight to Be Heard

Today, I found myself in yet another frustrating situation: mediation to arrange a monitor for my visits with my son. Let me be clear—I don’t need a monitor for my visits. I’m a capable mother, and I’ve worked hard to be where I am today. What frustrates me most is the system’s tendency to label, control, and undermine, even when it’s undeserved. And to make matters worse, my child’s father thought it was appropriate to suggest two men who physically abused me as possible monitors. Moments like this remind me that it’s not just individuals who can be abusive—sometimes, the system itself adds another layer of harm. It makes you feel powerless, unheard, and as if your progress isn’t real. These are the experiences that fuel my passion to build a space where women are truly seen for who they are today, not for the mistakes or pain they’ve endured in the past.

Facing the Past Without Giving It Control

I want to be thoughtful about my journey. Yes, my experience with domestic violence played a role in my struggles with substance abuse, but I don’t like placing the blame there. At the end of the day, my choices are my responsibility. That’s an important part of healing—acknowledging the pain without letting it define or control you. This is the mindset I want to bring to my wellness center: helping others recognize the ways trauma has shaped their lives without becoming trapped in the victim narrative. Healing means finding the power to say, ‘Yes, this happened, but it doesn’t control me anymore.

What My Wellness Center Will Offer

My wellness center will be a safe, empowering space where people can work through trauma and rebuild their lives—whether they’re healing from abusive relationships, family conflicts, or substance abuse. This isn’t just about getting better; it’s about taking back what was lost and building something new. Some of the services we’ll offer include:

-Therapy and support groups for survivors of domestic violence and emotional abuse

-Workshops on setting healthy boundaries and rediscovering personal power

-Holistic recovery programs for those struggling with substance abuse

-Resources and community connections to help rebuild after crisis This center will be a space that uplifts and empowers women to break free from any cycle—whether it’s emotional, relational, or systemic. I want them to know that no matter how broken they feel, it’s possible to rebuild and reclaim a life that’s entirely their own

Challenging the System While Building Something New

It’s not enough to heal from personal trauma—we also need to talk about the harm that systems can cause. Women navigating courts, custody battles, or recovery programs often feel punished or silenced instead of supported. These systems should be helping families heal, not tearing them apart. That’s a conversation we need to have more often. My goal with this center is not just to help individuals but to advocate for better systems—ones that focus on restoration and healing. Every woman deserves the chance to move forward without being shamed for her past or sabotaged by those around her.

A Message to Anyone Who Feels Stuck

If you feel trapped—whether in a toxic relationship or by the weight of the past—know that you are not alone, and you are not powerless. Healing doesn’t mean erasing what happened; it means reclaiming your story and writing a new ending. This wellness center is my way of helping others find their voice, their strength, and everything they thought they’d lost. Because no one who loves you should hurt you, and no system should make you feel like you’re broken. And as God is my witness, I’ll fight to make sure every woman knows that she has the power to take her life back.
